#45: Steampunk Spider

I was first introduced to steampunk on Etsy and then later by a series that I'm crazy about: The Parasol Protectorate books by Gail Carriger. A combination of Victorian Gothic and industrialism, steampunk is running the gamut of literature, fashion, and art. Steampunk Workshop describes it as "the intersection of technology and romance." What may have been introduced in the late 1980s and early 1990s is only recently becoming popular in both lifestyle and profession.

In Ms. Carriger's third installment of the Parasol Protectorate series, Blameless, Alexia (the heroine) has a couple of unpleasant encounters with what the author describes as mechanical ladybugs. These creatures were the inspiration for this clockwork spider.
