Today's spider was rather lovingly detailed with bits of copper- and bronze-painted metal (pieces of an ornate adjustable ring), copper tape, copper mesh, and a very small twist-on light that I found in the wedding supplies section of Michaels.
I am extremely fond of a series of books called the Parasol Protectorate by Gail Carriger featuring a tea-drinking damsel with a killer parasol and an affinity for trouble of the supernatural kind. One of the characters in the series is an inventor named Madame Lefoux whose very own lady cave lies below an inconspicuous hat shop. Incidentally, Alexia Tarabotti's lethal umbie is a Lefoux creation, so I have no doubt that Lefoux would construct something like this lightning bug spider, but with a bit more punch than just a luminescent butt.
Materials: twist-on light, yellow and lime tissue paper, copper tape, copper mesh, copper bead cap, copper eye pin, copper spacer bead, painted metal adjustable ring segments, copper bugle beads, brown and orange seed beads, lime green floral wire
